P. Filthy's Top Albums : 2011 Edition

And so begins the backward scroll through both record crate and iTunes library. The year was quite impressive across all genre, and even the concept of genre continues to fracture. In fact genre itself has simply become a platform for music journalists and bloggers to battle out for the next one that sticks.

I believe we are at a peak in music that will not be recognized for some time. We are in the age when a music lover in their teens can record an album in their bedroom and release it to critical acclaim. Never before has this been as prevalent as it is right now. Also, the age of the musicians that make my ears smile seems to be younger and younger each year as well.

I turned 30 this year and finally gained perspective on the world of music I grew up in and the music world I'm aging in and i couldn't be happier about either.

In the past year I took part in creating a solid community around a weekly party that takes place on Sunday no less (Bass Church @ Dragon's Den), I helped organize SXNO, a 2-day electronic music festival in New Orleans, I played the Le PLUR stage at Voodoo Experience for the second year in a row, I've made strides in the cocktail world and the love of my life and I are together. 2011 was not the easiest year but it sure was challenging in the best way possible.

I try to listen to everything once, that's my goal, even if it's unrealistic.

Here's the music that kept me going and received replays to say the least. Not to mention, the music video isn't dead either. Lovely and deep video art still accompanies the music as does the ever present album cover.
