Awesome New Republic (Live in New Orleans)

Carmine P. Filthy + Chckn & Egg Event Page

On March 14th I am helping to bring my favorite band from Miami through New Orleans for the first time. Awesome New Republic had me hooked since their first EP came out on Sutro. It took me quite some time before I caught them live. Once I did I was hooked. They are by far one of my favorite acts to see live. They have amazing energy and heart in every single moment of their time on stage.

Please join me and ANR on March 14th @ Breezy's.

MartyParty 'Blueberry Kush EP'

I caught MartyParty most recently with PANTyRAiD at Howlin Wolf down here in New Orleans. I must say the show blew me away with the turnout and the set the boys were able to give us.

MartyParty is about to drop a new EP, 'Blueberry Kush,' February 15th. The EP is in his proclaimed 'purple' style of production. I feel the 'purple' genre is both the best and worst name for a musical genre ever. But, labels aside, the music is melodic and bass heavy.

It's official. Techno music is aging nicely into it's 20's. Carl Craig started his ubiquitous label, Planet E, twenty years ago this year. To celebrate this occasion the label will start the year off by releasing '20 F@#&ING Years - We Ain't Dead Yet' - a best of Planet-E compilation featuring artists including Carl Craig, Recloose, Martin Buttrich, Kenny Larkin and Basic Channel, to be initially released on February 22nd digital only (PE/RA/Beatport/C2 website/PE website/iTunes). Alongside the digital release will be a competition for people to complete a poll and suggest which tracks should be pressed onto a limited edition vinyl box set, to be released in June 2011.

Beginning in March will be a monthly vinyl / digital remix package release from the Planet E and Carl Craig back catalogue. Artists including Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos, Dubfire, Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Seth Troxler, Kevin Saunderson, Francois K, Mad Mike Banks, Dennis Ferrer, and others have selected their favourite track from the Planet E back catalogue to remix and release. First up will be a Luciano remix of Recloose's 'Can't Take It', with monthly remix releases to follow.

Ben Samples 'Drop Bombs' Remixes!

The Daly City Records crew has a killer Remix package coming out 2/22. Ben Samples 'Drop Bombs' is a heavy and brooding Glitch-Hop stomper. Every remix is simply nastier than the next. I also believe Mochipet will be around the New Orleans area before you know it.

A dark and crunchy late night driving track.

Rainbow Arabia

Anthemic. Timeless (For those into music produced between 1980 and right now). Ready to be filed as a 'best song of 2011.'

The beats are skinny and precise. The vocal delivery: in your face and aloof at the same time.

This is POP. I'm a sucker for it in the right moment just like the next guy but, if you've bobbed your head to The Knife, The Ting Tings or The Blow in recent years then give this one a listen.

Rainbow Arabia has a press release that promises diversity. Apparently their upcoming album, 'Boys And Diamonds' (Released on Kompakt Feb. 28 (Abroad)/March 1 (US) will delve into "Arabic disco-dancehall jams sitting alongside sunnier moments with Caribbean and African flourishes." I don't necessarily find that evident from this preview single but, I do hear one fantastic song produced by this Los Angeles based duo.

I'll be giving the album a deep listening session; you can count on that.

01. Boys and Diamonds
02. Without You
03. Nothin Gonna Be Undone
04. Blind
05. Papai
06. Jungle Bear

Ground Is Lava (Wedidit Collective)

The LA beat scene continues to fracture and expand at a dizzying rate. The Wedidit Collective which includes the likes of Shlohmo and Jonwayne, has a new offering from member Ground Is Lava. 'Book of Tech' is a free EP of 8-bit wizardry, fuzzy synths and video game echoes.

Ghoul combine the jittering churns of post-dubstep with the structure of a avant pop song. Like Burial and Antony and the Johnsons having a song baby.

Elk 'Snow Mixtape'

Elk 'The Snow Mixtape' (Direct Link)

Gearing up for the February release of his debut full length 'Let's Get Married,' Elk decided to throw together this selector style mixtape to help all those up North through this incredibly snow filled winter.

The track selection is as diverse and varied as Elk's music. I mean, who else loves Patti Labelle and Tiger Trap? I really feel like Elk and I are in the minority here.

If you're in the NYC area though you can catch Elk live:

Epstein 'Sealess See' (Asthmatic Kitty)

Epstein 'Jellyfish' (From the forthcoming 'Sealess See' out Jan. 25th on Asthmatic Kitty) (Direct Link)

Roberto Carlos Lange continues to evolve and progress as one of the most innovative producers on the scene, evoking sounds of contemporaries like Panda Bear and Wavves to past influences like Prefuse 73, Donavan and Sergio Mendes. His upcoming album 'Sealess See' should be no disappointment as Mr. Lange weaves his way through another exquisite offering.

Clive Tanaka y su Orquestra's 'Jet Set Siempre No. 1'

Clive Tanaka is an incredibly mysterious artist. With this recent release, 'Jet Set Siempre No. 1' he offers the album as a cassette in both physical and digital formats. You can head over to the Tall Corn Music Band Camp page to download both SIDES for free here.

No matter what type of mystery and intrigue Tanaka claims, releasing music on cassette these days is über hip in a 'white belt in 2001 was' and a complete waste of time in my opinion. I mean, who really rocks a walkman anymore?

The music contained on there two sides ranges from French Touch style disco glamour to post-twee lounge music. Fun music for those still rocking 'Discovery' or early Minty Fresh albums on the regular.

Find out more on Clive Tanaka here.
