Paul White "We Three Kings" (One Handed Music)

And here's another holiday tinged ditty from Paul White via One Handed Music...three kings of shuffling beats maybe?

Hilarious. Mildly cheeky. And exactly what I'd expect from Brent Amaker.

Had never heard the original...loving the simplicity here.

I always find it provocative when an artist chooses to be anonymous.

Siinai "Anthem 1 & 2 (Physical Therapy 3-step remix)" (Splendour Records)

Siinai - Anthem 1&2 (Physical Therapy 3-step remix) by Electronic Beats

Finland's Siinai, debut their triumphant kraut-inspired "Olympic Games" this February in the US, out 2.21 on Splendour Records.

And the video below is...simply there are no words. But I feel an odd sense of cult classic here.

Motel11 x Spoek Mathambo's "NOMBOLO ONE PROJECT"

With Nombolo One, Spoek pays tribute to the great musical tradition of his country, and covers well known South African classics from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. He brings it as a debut outing for his production crew Nombolo One (which includes Spoek himself, Theo 'Mthezo' Tuge, Ayanda 'Ayobah' Sithole). All the songs on this album are covers and contain absolutely no samples. Everything was played with love and reverence in a special Nombolo One style.

Introducing: Homeboy Sandman (Stones Throw)

This guy has been at it for more than a minute now. I was living in New York when he was doing his own guerilla marketing via the subway systems. Now all his hard work has paid off as he joins the Stones Throw roster.

The first track "New York Nights" will lead off the forthcoming Stones Throw/Serato collaboration, and his debut Stones Throw EP will be released in late January 2012.

Here's a taste of his first release on the label.

P. Filthy's Top Singles : 2011 Edition

As a DJ the single is still of major importance and as much as I love the dance / electronic full length; there's nothing like the effort and precision placed on a single (or 12" as we used to call them.) Not every single on this list is dance floor ready per se but, the essence behind a solid single is represented here. Expect to hear more than a few of these on my year end mix coming in the next week or so.

P. Filthy's Top Albums : 2011 Edition

And so begins the backward scroll through both record crate and iTunes library. The year was quite impressive across all genre, and even the concept of genre continues to fracture. In fact genre itself has simply become a platform for music journalists and bloggers to battle out for the next one that sticks.

I believe we are at a peak in music that will not be recognized for some time. We are in the age when a music lover in their teens can record an album in their bedroom and release it to critical acclaim. Never before has this been as prevalent as it is right now. Also, the age of the musicians that make my ears smile seems to be younger and younger each year as well.

I turned 30 this year and finally gained perspective on the world of music I grew up in and the music world I'm aging in and i couldn't be happier about either.

In the past year I took part in creating a solid community around a weekly party that takes place on Sunday no less (Bass Church @ Dragon's Den), I helped organize SXNO, a 2-day electronic music festival in New Orleans, I played the Le PLUR stage at Voodoo Experience for the second year in a row, I've made strides in the cocktail world and the love of my life and I are together. 2011 was not the easiest year but it sure was challenging in the best way possible.

I try to listen to everything once, that's my goal, even if it's unrealistic.

Here's the music that kept me going and received replays to say the least. Not to mention, the music video isn't dead either. Lovely and deep video art still accompanies the music as does the ever present album cover.

Tom Waits "Bad As Me" (Anti)
