The XX "Shelter (Tiga Remix)"

The XX "Shelter (Tiga Remix)" (320 kbps) (Link to Download Page)

Nearly a Basic Channel inspired remix and very dubbed out in comparison to the normal remixing styles of Tiga. The remix does the original some truly inspired justice.

Plus a remix by Mount Kimbie. What more of a reason do you need to enter Andreya Triana's world?

Ursula 1000 'FUZZ EP'

Ursula 1000 “Hey You!” (feat. Fred Schneider) (Direct Link)

Brooklyn native Ursula 1000 is set to drop a four-track EP on ESL music this October 5th. The EP features vocals by the go-go genre bender originator himself, Fred Schneider of The B-52's. The track 'Hey You' comes across as a incredibly well produced B-side from The B-52's with that Detroit style swing and organ push.

So get your garage punk fuzz on.

Tricil 'The Emancipation' & Burning Head Video

The video was shot by Burning Head. Burning Head is the brainchild of two London based directors - Franck Trebillac & Marc Broussely.

Tricil hails from Atlanta, GA and is part of the growing US Dubstep scene.

This track is pretty nasty and the video is just simply SICK!

The Spit Brothers 'King Me' (Dubs Alive)

The Spit Brothers - King Me (FREE DOWNLOAD) by Dubs Alive

The Spit Brothers are from San Francisco and consider themselves a 'live bass music project.' I hear heavy influences of jazz and classic Jamaican dub music going on here. It's lovely to hear a track these days within the bass music world that isn't a complete and total headache.

The Spit Brothers next release come out in September on Dubs Alive, and features tracks by Djunya, 6Blocc, Luthor, and Bakir.

Blamma! Blamma! 'Beyond 17'

A few years ago I signed a track from Blamma! Blamma! for the Blog compilation series I helped to create for Coco Machete imprint Buzzard Gulch. The track was called 'Only Friend,' a serious punk electro romper. Check out the compilation 'It Came From The Blog' here.

Since then the duo unfortunately lost member, Martin Cole, to cancer. Nick DC, the other member, has continued to work through the productions that were unfinished as well as new productions.

'Beyond 17' is quite different from all the other material Blamma! Blamma! have released but still quality in every way. The track is smooth and sensual as it climbs to the inevitable pay off with one of the better hooks written in pop music over the last few decades. Check it out for yourself.

The track will be released on the Cage & Aviary imprint The Walls Have Ears as a tribute to Martin. Cage & Aviary also took a shot at remixing this slice of neo-balearica. Nice!

Husky Rescue

I remember when I first received Husky Rescue's debut album 'Country Falls' like it was yesterday. This is mostly due to the fact that it was given to me by one of the Serbian doormen from the spot I was resident DJ at in Chicago at the time. His name was Miki, but everyone I knew called him Miki 'Prada.' due to the fact that if you wanted a designer suit from the black market and I'm talking the real deal, not a knock off, you'd turn to Miki- Miki 'Prada.' He had definitely been an influence on my taste in House and Disco at the time and had just returned from WMC in Miami.

He handed me the CD and said, 'This will help you chill out Carmin-a.

I haven't really kept up with the band since that debut honestly but from the track below it seems like they've evolved. This track kind of has a Stereolab vibe to it. Nice melodies, precise instrumentation and a general sense of relax and just drive vibe.

Helsinki's Husky Rescue release the icy, ethereal "Ship Of Light" in the US this October on Catskills October 5th, 2010.

Justin Bieber: 800% Slowed Down

So it turns out there's some hidden secrets in Justin Bieber's "U Smile." I know. I can't believe his name has made its way on to my blog either. But, I was tipped off to this SoundCloud link below where user, Shamantis has taken the poptastic song and slowed it down by 800%. It ends up sounding like Sigur Ros or Aphex Twin during the Selected Ambient Works era. Don't know what else to say other than what lies below is 35 minutes of Ambient joy.

Bass Kleph “Weakness For Warp”

Bass Kleph “Weakness For Warp” (Direct Link)

I've been a fan of Bass Kleph since sometime in 2008 when I was dropping 'Helium' in nearly every set I played.

Here's a recent mash-up he did using Deformation “Weakness” + Bloody Beetroots & Steve Aoki “Warp” as the source material. The outcome is a nearly tribal tech-house builder sure to launch your dance floor to the next level.

Bass Kleph is also about to embark on his first N. American tour.

Aug 19 - Shine - Vancouver
Aug 20 - Mission Rock Café - San Francisco
Aug 21 - Love Festival - Los Angeles
Aug - 26 - The Vault - El Paso
Aug - 27 – Cameo - Miami

Paul A. Rosales & 'Wonder Wheel Presents Compilation'

As music journalists and bloggers work tirelessly to name the next hot genre budding from some small corner of the globe, all I can ever hear are the echoes of musicians that came before. However, in the same breath, I can also trash a music review that relies too heavily on the 'this band sounds like these guys' version of music journalism.

It's good to know that other people spend time listening to their twee records from the 90's and their Pacific NW lo-fi records from labels like K and Kill Rock Stars. This whole 'glo-fi' and stripped down music movement helps me to trust this guess.

Paul A. Rosales has just released this compilation for FREE. Read what he has to say about it below and go download it for yourself.

"Allow me to present you with my friends. Its all Southern California music here. Besides recording Wonder Wheel, I've recorded and helped produce a number of local bands since 2003. Only now with a larger repertoire and network, the music has coalesced into a bright and happy zone that can't be held back much longer. Some of these names you have heard before, some not at all; either way you will enjoy the lush collection of California dudes and dudettes.

2 songs each from: Tan Dollar, Pearl Harbor / Puro Instinct, Wonder Wheel, Cosmonauts, Muddy Flowers, Dash Jacket, Stellarphone and Moon Pearl.

Bilal 'Airtight's Revenge' (Plug Research)

Just this past Sunday I was enjoying some tapas at Mimi's in the Marigny in New Orleans. The DJ, Super Cool DJ Kazu was casually- I mean he was sitting the whole time-playing some jazzy and Neo-soul tunes while we relaxed and enjoyed our well deserved Sunday.

One of the tracks he played was the fantastic cover of 'High & Dry' by Plug Research artist Bilal. Well, not more than a few days later I received an email from the label announcing the artists' first album in 9 years. 'Artight's Revenge' is due for release September 14th.

Get some pre-order action here.

And check out Bilal performing a Donny Hathaway song with the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Ensemble from a few weeks back.

Reporter 'Time Incredible'

Reporter 'Lab Test (Miracles Club Remix)' (Direct Link)

Reporter 'Click Shaw' (Direct Link)

Portland-based trio Reporter released their debut full length 'Time Incredible' yesterday on Holocene Music.

The two track available above run the post-Italo, New Wave aesthetic that has taken the general masses to catch up with over the last 10 years. Labels like Italians Do It Better, Ghostly, Plant Music and even our friends over at DFA have been keen to these sounds for years. Reporter is being heralded as the next wave of Portland musicians, a scene where both Indie Pop and dark sultry disco can coexist in the same club.

Miracles give 'Lab Test' the warehouse treatment Chi-town style. The track would fit just as easily into one of Frankie Knuckles sets circa 1986 as it would at any underground dance party today.

'Click Shaw,' in its original mix would sit nicely between a Hercules & Love Affair remix and a Nite Jewel track.

Upcoming Shows
Aug 13 Holocene (album release party), Portland OR
Aug 22 Tectonic Jelly, Eugene OR
Aug 26 The Depot, San Francisco CA
Aug 28 The Troubadour w. Sun Araw, Former Ghosts (FMLY event) LA CA

Simian Mobile Disco Is FIXED

New Single from SMD::
Simian Mobile Disco 'Nerve Salad'

One of my favorite, if not THE FAVORITE, NYC party Fixed has introduced a new mix CD series through Defend Music. The first installment comes from Simian Mobile Disco and marks the first Domestic USA release for the famed British DJ/Production/Remix team. In fact, the first time I saw SMD play @ FIXED it was an all out analog set with the boys pounding it out. Truly epic for those lucky enough to have been there. Apparently I pulled a pirouette on the dance floor that night.

“The mix we have done for Fixed is based on how we hope our residency with them in
New York will pan out. Fixed has always been a forum for the deeper and odder end of
disco and techno, but without forgetting that it's still a party. We mixed this live in our
studio, allowing us to throw some extra effects in there and also a bit of the 808 from
time to time.” - Jas (of Simian Mobile Disco)

Out: October 12, 2010
Label: Defend Music

Simian Mobile Disco Is Fixed
Track List
1. Brain Machine “Eternal Night”

Jonathan Dueck and Asthmatic Kitty :: "IN TRANSIT presents: 16mm"

20 short, hand-painted 16mm films painted by Jonathan Dueck and soundtracked in collaboration with I Heart Lung, Chad VanGaalen, DENEIR, and Son Lux.

The 16mm source material was given to Dueck by the Calgary Science Centre which deemed the old documentary reels obsolete. The films were scratched and damaged. Dueck created five unique films for each of the 4 collaborating artists who reacted to the visuals with sonics appropriate to each piece.

Funding for this project was made possible with the help of the Canada Council for the Arts and generous donations through Kickstarter.

About Jonathan Dueck:
Since Jonathan Dueck has graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2001 he has been creating, sharing, and participating in collaborative/interactive art that uses and re-uses ordinary objects, materials, and circumstances to help others to see their world differently.

What started as a practice focused around IN TRANSIT: a portable gallery, which was a gallery with regular programming that existed inside a small red suitcase, quickly expanded into a web-based "school" called the IN TRANSIT Centre for Creative Observation where participants were invited to complete monthly assignments that were regularly posted on the web page.

Since then, IN TRANSIT has presented a performance tour with Berkeley, CA musician Half-Handed Cloud, a two month long tea party performance, a series of "world record" prints, album covers, posters, peep box dioramas, a series of drawings based around TV viewing habits, and now a 16 mm film project.

The common thread in all of Dueck's work is collaboration. Whether it is collaboration with other artists, record companies, or viewers themselves nearly all of his work has involved other people.

The music coming out, the visual art that surrounds me, the people in my life and the beautifully lush Pacific Northwest have all given me a new found hope in creativity and the role technology plays in bringing it to life. What I find most inspiring is this emerging, socially conscious, technologically driven group of artists, musicians and writers that have thrown out decades of tired ideas about genres to simply create their art as individuals. This "new eclecticism" is at the heart of Decibel and if you're curious about what I'm referring to, look no further than this year's festival program.

When I started plotting the curatorial course for the 2010 edition back in November of 2009, one of my many goals with this year's program was to present something fun and familiar to our all of our loyal attendees; a sort of reward for standing by us over the years. For you, I offer some of our most memorable performers and friends from over the past 8 years, including Modeselektor, Carl Craig, Fennesz, Monolake, Murcof, Mary Anne Hobbs and Vladislav Delay.

Now, it simply wouldn't be a Decibel Festival without a handful of critically acclaimed artists making their West Coast debut this September. This list includes, Scuba, Ben Frost, Mount Kimbie, Dinky, Oneohtrix Point Never, Clubroot, Untold, Ikonika, Trus'me, Mark Van Hoen, Moritz Von Oswald Trio, FaltyDL and Lawrence English. You combine this with an abundance of internationally renowned talent making their Decibel debut (i.e. Plastician, Cassy, Theo Parrish, Starkey, Distance, Catz 'n Dogz, Headhunter, Soul Clap, Tim Green, Kevin Saunderson, Gold Panda, Luke Hess, Mux Mool, Noveller) and you have our most exciting line up to date.

Last but surely not least, for all you left coast natives wishing to bask in the final glow of the 2010 festival season, I'm proud to announce our most engaging selection of West Coast performers to date, including Beats Antique, VibeSquad, Bluetech presents: Satori Social, Eskmo, Lusine, Alex B, Low Limit of Lazer Sword, Emancipator, Pezzner, Samiyam, LawnChair Generals, Lorn, Truckasauras, Grouper, Shlohmo, Phutureprimitive and Splatinum.

There is no a doubt in my mind that this year's program is our most comprehensive edition to date. In true Decibel fashion, we're paying homage to the artists and partners that have helped popularize what we've done over the years, while offering a broad scope of things to come in regards to electronic music, visual art and technology. As for the experience, regardless of whether you prefer to dance, sit, watch, learn, socialize or just listen, I can guarantee that you'll find a showcase that fits your mood, age and personal taste. With 10 venues, 28 showcases, a conference and close to 100 carefully selected music performers, visual artists, educators and speakers from across the globe (14 countries represented this year), I can't think of better way to close out yet another momentous summer on the beautiful West Coast. "

Sean Patrick Horton
Decibel Festival President and Curator

Sounds like a blast. I feel Seattle is calling me for a visit soon. If not this year then most definitely next.

Chilly Gonzales 'I Am Europe'

'I'm gay pastry and racist cappuccino...I am Europe."

Tiga's 'chess' movie role. The voice over on this may be one of the funniest things I've ever heard.

Gonzales directs this film which follows two chess playing brothers played by Tiga and Gonzales himself and there's a performance artist/love interest character played by Peaches.

Boys Noize will be releasing his musical companion to the film, 'Ivory Towers' on Sept. 12th.

Daria 'Santeria' (Cadenza)

For their third release, Cadenza taps an old friend from the Geneva scene for a four-track release of organic tripped out jungle House. Daria is primed to be one of the next massive female producers and DJs on the underground scene with her Weetamix residency, her appearances at clubs like Watergate, Harry Klein and Bar 25, and her two South American tours—as well, of course, as her participation in many a Cadenza showcase. There's something both delicate and dark about Daria's productions and I'm loving both sides.

dOP 'Greatest Hits' (Circus Company)

Parisian trio- Clément , Dam, and JAW have been creating Lounge-Tech for the past three years as dOP. They've found success with their unique brand of sexy, infectious, and often bizarre version of soulful house.

Perhaps the reason for their sound comes from the long history each member has playing multiple instruments in bands ranging in style from Jazz to Rock to Classical, Reggae and even Hip Hop. Perhaps their style comes from too much love making and vodka. Either way, these guys prove to be legit.

They also have a deep relationship with lyrics as most tracks on the 14-track debut full length, 'Greatest Hits' contain them. The stories they weave through their bippity boppity productions are as odd as the instrumentations. The titles speak for themselves- "Happy Meal", "Worm Hunting", "3 Suitcases" and my personal favorite- "Love Ride."

The trio share in the creation of each track, most normally through a division of each players strong suit. Dam, on sax and keyboards. Clément tackles the rhythmic aspect and also handles most of the computer arrangements. And JAW lends the lizard-like vocals to each song. His lyrics are a cluster of sex, poverty, late nights, champagne, drugs, death and cannibalism.

dOP are equal parts dark Berlin techno club and part corner cabaret. This is not for your average listener but for those ready to challenge what truly is seedy and sultry in the vast realm of club music.

"Greatest Hits" will be released October 4th on Circus Company.

"Here's a lil' info on the mashup; it's a DJ Orgasmic mashup of Ludacris "How Low" and Joe "Clap Trap" on Hessel Audio that I slowed down to an nice house tempo .... I mashed that up with a dope Renaissance Man beat ... giving a nice long intro, DJ friendly for a super long blend just how I like it!" - J. Phlip

This delicate edit of Brass Construction - Happy People comes straight from the Pol On camp with filters galore, sassy percussion, and some thumping jackin' beats that make this a feel good hit for the tail end of summer.

A while back Worthy and Yankee Zulu released Humble Mumble. Now we bring you an unreleased club rub of it. This is big.

This version of Humble Mumble rolls through the ears with plodding bass tones and conga rhythms, as well as those pitched up 'n' down vocals; a refreshing alternative to the original.

LOGO “La Vie Moderne” (Kitsuné)

LOGO, are one of the newest acts to join the constantly growing roster on Kitsuné. Their press release is full of odd metaphors and nonsense. The only real fact that seems to be conjured throughout is that these two guys are 23 and have a very relaxed opinion of being musicians and producers.

The music is youthful indeed and no surprise coming from the Kitsuné label. However, there's something unique going on here that I honestly can't put my finger on. There's something hidden within the French Touch echoes and Post-Italo samples that make my ears curious as to what the future may hold for LOGO.

The remix package is naturally solid with French Fries & Tony Senghore coming through with their micro-bass driven house. Danton Eeprom delivers a nearly 12 minute remix that beeps and tweaks like a Prins Thomas disco mix except at 125 BPM and filled with some serious bounce. DyE crosses over with a remix falling somewhere between classic Trax era Acid rolls and new school Black Meteoric Star style 808 pulses. Gohan rounds out the four guest remixes with an after hours sprawl that would feel as right played 20 years ago or right now.

The entire E.P. will be released digitally and on 12" on August 30th.
