Quadron 'Never Freeze'

Denmark-based Quadron offer up a free download of their previously unreleased 'Never Freeze.' This track is so terribly good I wish it were at least twice as long. Clocking in at 2 minutes the song is one that you have to play again and again. Almost like a B-side cover version of a lost Prince song.

Also, check their podcast on the Saturn Never Sleeps website here.

Check out Quadron's live performance in Philly with King Britt & Rucyl tonight for Saturn Never Sleeps.

Baths 'Hall' (@ Pitchfork)

Baths “Hall (The One AM Radio Remix Feat. The Los Feliz Ladies Choir)” (@ Stereogum)

The debut album from Baths is truly something special among the growing Beat Music scene. The 21-year old Will Wiesenfeld has been recording music over the past six years as [Post-Foetus] but, after a gig with Daedelus last September the [Post-Foetus] moniker was placed to the side so that Wiesenfeld could invest time in his own Beat driven project- thus Baths was born.

The album is both spontaneous and classically structured in melody, chorus and instrumentation.

I've listened to this album everyday since I received a copy. Perfect for the early humid nights of Summer.

Check out Baths on tour now:

Son Lux 'Weapons VII' Video

WEAPONS VII - Son Lux (Official Video) from anticon. on Vimeo.

I wish I could be at Prospect Park in Brooklyn for his performance on July 1st for Celebrate Brooklyn! If you're in my old neighborhood I suggest you check Son Lux out.

The director of this video, Landis Smithers had this to say about creating the video and working with Son Lux and his music...

"Working with Son Lux was an amazing creative experience. I immersed myself in multiple iterations of "weapons", and found myself coming back again and again to the idea that we all use outward appearances as a form of protection against the world, separating ourselves from life and conflict with defenses constructed from our own desires and self-image. Working with my team, we created before and after "dream" states for the models, reflecting how we are in some ways most beautiful when we are defenseless (without our weapons) and in some ways most frightening when we are "safe" (concealed behind our masks). In the end, we cross the lines between self and self-creation often, and rarely let anyone in. Son Lux's music haunts me, and this piece is an expression of how deeply his insights and inspirations have affected me."

Matthew Dear 'Black City'

August 17th of this Summer will be another great moment for album releases. Matthew Dear will release his third full length album on Ghostly International. I don't know about you, but 'Leave Luck To Heaven' and 'Asa Breed' are still among my favorite albums I own. I remember picking up the debut on double vinyl in Chicago about ten years ago and not being able to take the two pieces of vinyl from my decks for weeks.

As you count the days until the release of 'Black City' you can head over to his website and grab the single 'I Can't Feel' for FREE99 if you sign up for his mailing list.

Aloe Blacc 'Femme Fatale'

MP3: Aloe Blacc "Femme Fatale" (via Stones Throw)

Hopefully you've already heard the brilliant 'I Need A Dollar' single from Aloe Blacc...I must say it's the hit of now in every way I can fathom. Here's the newest single from Mr. Blacc, a cover of the Velvet Underground's 'Femme Fatale.'

You can pick it up from Stones Throw as a 7-inch single now, I sure am. The track will be featured on his upcoming full length 'Good Things.' What more can I say? Stones Throw does it again.

Oh Stones Throw, making my collection of vinyl more beautiful each day and making my wallet bare.

VeemanJanssen

VeemanJanssen is the producer duo behind Le Le. Their mutual love for quirky disco, italo and house tracks can easily be recognized in this tingling disco chop. Janssen, a.k.a. Parra is not only a gifted designer but also has a keen ear for samples and obscure musical styles. Rimer London, who has released the brilliant Intercity EP on Magnetron Music earlier this year, sprays his magic all over this track. The forthcoming EP will be released on Instant Replay on July 16th.

Sepalcure 'Love Pressure' (Hot Flush)

Sepalcure, a Brooklyn-based duo composed of Travis Stewart (aka Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (founder of PercussionLab.com).

As electronic music continues to turn in on itself as every minute passes and talking genre has become useless labels like Hotflush continue to expand their catalog in seemingly every direction possible. What I love most about this EP is the love that is laced into every sample and beat. This EP makes me feel comparisons to everything from Boards of Canada to Burial. Definitely one for the emotional listener. Grab it for yourself digitally here (via Beatport) and pick it up on vinyl here (via Boomkat).

All four tracks from the EP have been posted to YouTube for your sampling pleasure.

And if you're in need of some more Hot Flush love check out their newest podcast mixed by DJ Shortstuff of the Blunted Robots camp, a journey scaling through house, funky, and dubstep, featuring the latest productions of Shortstuff, Brackles, and Martin Kemp.

John Hancock Solo Album

One of the most gifted musicians I've had the pleasure of knowing has released his solo album, 'Antenna Death.' For those new to my blog and unfamiliar with John Hancock, he's the lead singer of Miami-based band, ANR (Awesome New Republic). John can lay it down from Prince style sex jams to Animal Collective type dirges. He's one of the most unique and gifted songwriters around and I suggest you sink your ears into his growing body of work.

Not Scared At All from Jorge Rubiera on Vimeo.

The album is available on limited edition recycled vinyl from St. Ives Records and most digital retailers.
