At only 21 years old, James Blake has already stunned with his unique productions. In his case I refuse to pin down a genre mostly because he doesn't completely fit into one. I feel the same way about his music as I do about Burial, Dam-Funk, AmmonContact and Apex Twin. It just holds its own without having to be labeled.
His newest EP on the 'back from the dead' R&S records, CMYK EP, is out now.
I was in touch with Franki Chan around six or seven years ago when I was promoting dance records to college radio. At that point iHeartComix was just starting to gain steam and Franki was rocking more 'indie' style sets out in Cali. As he continues to grow as an illustrator, label head, DJ and now producer- his vibe continues to turn into something all his own, his remixes sound like nothing else out there which says a lot considering the legions of DJ / Producers popping up everyday. Here's a remix he recently did for Act Yo Age. I'd call it minimal calypso house meets tech house lounge.

New Klaxons track from their sophomore album, the tentatively titled "Surfing The Void". Initially the band recorded an entire album worth of psychedelic material with James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco but, had to scrap it because the label executives deemed it too inaccessible. They then worked with Ross Robinson, producer of records from the likes of Korn and At The Drive In. So I guess we will all have to wait patiently to find out if the void is filled or if Klaxons find the sophomore slump and vanish into the smoke machines and glow sticks of Nu Raves ghost.

Venice, California native, Kraddy is one of those producers experimenting with sounds ranging from Glitch Hop to Dubstep to Digi-Dance Hall and back again. Also a founding member of The Glitch Mob, Kraddy has recently been brought on to remix The Infesticons for their final installment in a trilogy, "Bedford Park" out on Big Dada. "Bombs Anthem," the second single from "Bedford Park," features Creature, Seraphim and Juice Aleem on vox, plus a Mike Ladd beat that sounds like Stevie Wonder in a very, very bad mood.
Check out Kraddy's remix of "Bombs Anthem" below as well as a few of his other favorite remixes.

Roberto Carlos Lange is like many skilled producers schizophrenic- as far as having multiple monikers under which he produces various sounds from pastoral beat-scapes to straight forward boom bap check out productions by Helado Negro, Epstein, ROM, 1/2 of Savath y Savalas to pick up what he's putting down.
Already releasing an album earlier this year, "When Man Is Full He Falls Asleep" under his beat-oriented pseudonym Epstein, he announces plans for a second Epstein full-length before the end of 2010. On top of that, Lange is working on his second Helado Negro album for release next year and will have a collaboration with Julianna Barwick out soon too. Lange was recently commissioned by Stones Throw's Now Again imprint to contribute a mix which you can download from their site. A really fun listen the mix spans smooth 80s R&B synthesizer jams, Delta blues, southeastern Asian folk tunes, anthem piano house, obscure post-punk, and whatever the hell else he feels like putting on there.

Parisian motor fetish electro poppers, Bot'Ox (AKA or Julien Briffaz and Benjamin Boguet, the half of Tekel and the whole of Cosmo Vitelli) puts it into gear and takes to the Autobahn with their latest single, ‘Overdrive’ out on I’m A Cliché Records this June. Jammed packed with up-tempo rhythms, mad synth lines and freaky melodies at every sharp turn, ‘Overdrive’ is the perfect long haul, road trip soundtrack as you put pedal to the metal on the highway to where ever.
A tried and tested formula, the reaction to the track at the end of the band’s new live set has proven to be most welcoming. The crowd loves it and so do Bot’Ox. Already a staple fixture in the buzzy Parisian scene, the duo’s debut album will be released in September and the boys look set to rev it up.
The 12'' package comes with 4 choice remixes.
Morgan Geist, of Metro Area fame and Environ's head honcho, adds a furious groove to the original while keeping the tension alive. French duo Logo, hotly tipped newcomers, take it straight to the dance floor and last but not least, Welcome Stranger (aka Thomas Bulllock from Rub n Tug) uses the handbrake to give us a deep, beat less and dubbed out version.

In this situation...I'm not the biggest fan of this single. However, I know there's a huge audience out there for it. Those who love The Ting Tings, Shiny Toy Guns or Calvin Harris. Pop fused electro fun and harmless at the end of the day.
The Acid Girls give it a nice bounce on their remixing duties.

For a while now Australia has continued to produce energetic and talented DJ/Producers. Ready to make their footsteps heard among the beatification of the beat. Heroes of the Party are no exception. The boys just dropped their remix of 'What Is Guru' from one of my favorite production teams of the past two years, Renaissance Man.
Goofy and bouncy. This makes me think Herbert or Soft Pink Truth meats the Dubsided / Made To Play aesthetic. I'm giving them a break and not commenting on the Robin masks...but c'mon guys...

Kush Arora presents ‘Voodoo Sessions’, a journey that continues the legacy of his bass driven Indo-Caribbean catalog. This time a tribal approach of funky, double time dubstep and African grime is the order of the day as Kush explores new territories for the first release of this year. Kush Arora has been sculpting sound in San Francisco and beyond for the past decade, branding his own signature imprint on dancehall, dread bass, dubstep, and Indian music.
The title track “Humidifier” skirts around the house tempo tropical sound, fueled with angular drum and effects edits. It contributes Indian remix theme elements into a completely new territory for the funky sound and touches upon edges of dub.
“Empty Alleys” continues on the sample heavy theme with a 138 BPM soca-step banger fit for any dubstep or electro DJ, reminiscing on a New York sound drenched in Indian aesthetics.
The release also features a remix of “Nakhil” by Maga Bo, previously released on Dutty Artz featuring K-Libre from Tunisia, with Bay Area afro beat dub master Bakir adding his hands to the remix. A grime and meditational approach is taken to the vocal, contributing sped up African instrumentation with industrial darkness.

The Reggae / Dub / Roots Music – ahem – Dubstep scene is growing throughout the global underground and we’d like to introduce you to a character that’s been at the forefront for a long time - Isaac Haile Selassie. On “The Fight, The Spirit” the Los Angeles-by-way-of Ethiopia singer/songwriter/musician teams up with producer dubLoner (AKA Kenneth James Gibson) for an original release that marries a classic sound and socially conscious lyrics with remixes that provide a contemporary flair. It’s an evolutionary step in forward-thinking electronic dub.
Straight up, “The Fight, The Spirit” is a beautiful piece of downtempo music with Isaac’s passionate vocals dropping over dubLoner’s delicate instrumental. On the remix front, Djunya opens his bag of tricks while managing to keep the structure of the original piece intact. Kush Arora brings it to the big systems with a bassed-up and more electronic version of the track. Still, Isaac is there front and center singing his mind. “Backoff!,” the second original track on the EP, is a dubby club track built with 4/4 house beats that twists and turns into a purple haze. Finally, Ruoho Ruotsi reshapes the track into a bubbly, underwater vibe that’s all about chill.
dubLoner is the reggae, roots and dub alias for the man known in everyday circles as Kenneth James Gibson. Since releasing his first record in 1994, he’s recorded under the aliases apendics.shuffle, Eight Frozen Modules, dubLoner, The Premature Wig, Men In Slippers, Cascabel Gentz, KJ Gibbs, Reverse Commuter, Bal Cath, Electronic Music Composer, and Hiss & Buzz (with Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto), among others. Gibson was also the founder of noise pop band Furry Things and helped launch Adjunct Records in 2005
Isaac Haile Selassie is the real deal and his global journey is one of intrigue and inspiration. Born in a rural area of Ethiopia, his mother passed away before he was a year old and unable to care for him, his father brought him to the capital city, Addis Ababa and gave him over to the care of the late Emperor, Haile Selassie I. Isaac was placed in His Imperial Majesty’s boarding school, which the Emperor himself established, and was overseen personally by His Majesty and in close proximity to the palace. Isaac’s last name is Haile Selassie because he was raised by Haile Selassie I. When the Emperor was deposed, Ethiopia was thrown into political turmoil and Isaac left his country by foot, walking through the desert and until he reached Sudan, where one night he met a group of other Ethiopians who were listening to Bob Marley, a pivotal moment in Isaac’s life. Marley’s message of love and peace resonated within Isaac’s own experience of dealing with life’s harsh realities first hand. From that point on, Isaac (now based in Los Angeles) has been committed to promoting harmony among people around the world and ending racism through the power of his music and lyrics.
“The Fight, The Spirit” is available digitally and as limited edition wax with individually hand painted sleeves from May 25 through de’fchild.
