Daptone Gold

This album was released back in November but, I really am happy to have discovered this 23 track compilation featuring rarities, classics and previously unreleased tracks from Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, The Budos Band, Binky Griptite, Lee Fields, Antibalas and more now, in the middle of winter when my soul needs some extra soul.

Over the years I have learned to love the classic sounds of Soul and R&B deeper than I ever thought possible. Perhaps it has to do with my mother growing up near the Motor City tied in with years of working at Johnny Rockets that rotated 'the hits' of Motown in the jukebox (on a side note, certain songs like 'Respect' by Aretha just don't sound as good after hearing them somewhere in the neighborhood of 100,000 times). Either way, I am proud to love soul music.

This is a perfect compilation to introduce those unfamiliar Soul and R&B lovers to the Daptone collective. These songs are timeless and will sound as good today as in forty years prior or into the future. The collective is dedicated to recording their music the way it once was-cut to analog tape and released on 45 RPM singles and LPs.

So for all you time travelers of silky funk & deep grooves check this compilation out now.
